Introduction

A word from the chairman

Dear colleague,

It is a great honour for me to welcome you all to the 12th European competition for young electricians (CYE) in Basel at the Muba Fair from the 13th to 18th April 2011. We look forward to an exciting competition between the best of the best young electricians in Europe. All participants in the competition are already national champions in their own country and are sent to represent their national colours in the European championship. Using the latest available technology and products, this is bound to be an exhibition in exceptional technical skills.

CYE is not only about selecting this year's European champion. The fast development in the electrical installation industry requires skilled professional workers. I strongly believe that sharing information and experience is an excellent way to develop our vocational education and training. During the four working days at the MUBA fair in Basel, the young, passionate professionals will demonstrate an outstanding level of excellence and competence in both theoretical and practical tasks. I am sure that this performance may inspire co-workers, employees, as well as representatives from the educational system to continue their good work to ensure a high level of education and training in our industry.

Participation at the CYE is a ‘once in a lifetime' experience. The professional input and share of experience is of cause important. Also appreciated, is the extended friendship among competitors, experts and observers from all over Europe. This has for many of us been very valuable, both professional as well as personal. I am also convinced that our hosts, the Swiss Federation for Electrical Installations Companies - VSEI, will make this year's competition a memorable experience.

I'm looking forward to see you in Basel and wish you all good luck with all your preparations.

Best regards,

Agnar Holen
Chairman AIE TF CYE

Competitors will each be representing their own country, coming from several countries throughout Europe. Usually all finalists of a national competition will compete, benchmark and demonstrate their skills by carrying out a practical electrical and telecommunication installation.  The aim of the CYE is to demonstrate at a highly public frequented exhibition the advantages of high-quality professional training and to boost public recognition for the professional work of electricians, revealing the exceptional quality of training in the member countries of the AIE.
